E-notarisation & E-legalisation
Electronic notarisation makes it possible to send by email to the destination abroad a notarised, fully authenticated document on the same day the client signs. I am set up to e-notarise documents.
When the FCO adopt e-legalisation, that same document can also bear the FCO apostille.
The FCO are very interested in the concept. They are currently working with the Notaries Society and looking at a system for e-legalisation on which they have committed to give a decision shortly.
The notary will still be responsible for checking I D and authenticating the transaction or record, but it will greatly improve the speed with which the notary can achieve the result the client wishes.
However as always with notarised documents it is a question of what will be acceptable to the authority or body abroad which requires the document. At the moment the US is well advanced with a system of its own, as is New Zealand and the Hague Convention countries. But ultimately the particular recipient will be the one to be satisfied.
